The year 2016 reflects the decisions to update the 2014-2019 Military Programming Law (LPM) adopted in July 2015, giving the armed forces the means to deal with the challenges of the 21st century. The year 2016 reflects the decisions taken to update the Military Planning Law (LPM) for 2014-2019, adopted in July 2015, by giving the armed forces the means to meet both internal and external challenges by increasing the defence budget by €600 million to €32 billion and creating 2,300 net new jobs.

Following the attacks of November 2015, the President of the Republic decided on additional measures to strengthen the defence effort in the fight against terrorism, announcing in particular the end of deflation within the Ministry of Defence until 2019. The Defence Council of 6 April 2016 confirmed the cancellation of the 10,000 planned job cuts and provides for an additional financial effort in favour of the Defence mission and beyond the financial trajectory of the MPL updated from 2017.

These resources will make it possible to continue to step up the fight against terrorism, the increase in the strength of the armed forces in the fields of cyber security and intelligence, and also to adapt the resources of our deployed forces, particularly those on national territory (Sentinel).
