THE WARRIOR SPIRIT

On the eve of the deployment of Scorpion equipment in the land forces, the Chief of the Land Staff has spoken several times in recent months about that "extra soul" without which no enterprise can be doomed to victory: the warrior spirit.

What is it all about?

The warrior spirit is first and foremost a means of repositioning the combatant, but also the command structures, around four essential qualities: first of all, boldness, which is essential for decision-making; pragmatism, which enables the integration of the environment, contingency, risk-taking and gaining the upper hand over the adversary; resilience, in the face of losses and uncertainty; and hardiness, to evolve and fight in a hostile and changing environment, outside one's comfort zone. The warrior spirit is therefore consubstantial with the fighting spirit and the desire to win that drives our leaders and soldiers.

It is not just that. It is also, today and more than ever, the combination of mastery of high technology and respect for the military traditions on which esprit de corps is based. Pugnacity, innovation, a sense of adaptation, lucidity, ethics and moral forces thus nourish the warrior spirit of a democracy that knows how to win without losing its soul. Attempting to deepen what this notion of warrior spirit covers is what the various articles that you will find briefly in this publication and more fully on the CDEC's website offer.
