EUROSATORY 2018

Letter TO THE CONTACT N°41

From 11 to 15 June, the Eurosatory exhibition was held, a very important international event and a major meeting place for the Army. This year's show was special in several ways. Firstly, because it was held in a new landscape. After presidential and legislative elections, a Strategic Review of Defence and National Security, we are at the dawn of a new Military Programming Law (LPM). Then because of the central theme chosen for this show, innovation. Finally because, together with the General Delegate for Armament, Joël Barre, and the President of GICAT, Stéphane Mayer, we wanted to express ourselves at a joint conference to show our willingness to succeed together in the transformation of the French Army's capabilities.
The LPM 2019-2025 prioritizes the acceleration of equipment modernization to respond without delay to the evolution of the threat. It is an LPM that takes us into a new technological field, with state-of-the-art weapons and information systems. It allows the Army to simultaneously move in four directions: at "man height" to better meet the expectations of soldiers and their families, repair to fill certain gaps such as our artillery guns, which are widely used in operations, modernization with, in particular, the replacement of the middle armoured segment, and innovation, to enable the rapid development of all the good ideas that emerge at all levels, especially in the units.
To achieve these ambitious objectives, we must be guided by three principles. First, efficiency, because the Army must meet its operational needs in an incremental and concrete way, by prioritizing and taking into account industrial realities. Secondly, agility, both in the expression of military needs and in industrial design and production. Finally, openness, because none of us can succeed alone. Soldiers, engineers and entrepreneurs, we must work together and move forward at the same pace. This is the meaning of my slogan at Eurosatory: we leave together, we work together, and we arrive together!

Army General Jean-Pierre Bosser
