Context

The purpose of the Command Doctrine and Education Centre (CDEC) is to ensure operational effectiveness and to promote military thinking. It is the referent of the Army's doctrine and the guarantor of higher military education. As such, it prepares future active and reserve military leaders for the exercise of high command responsibilities.
As a think tank, it contributes to the link between the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Ministries of National Education, Youth and Sports and of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in particular by receiving seconded teachers. Their mission is to produce and develop resources (heritage, history, geography...) of the CDEC and the Army, for the benefit of defence education in secondary schools ("Defence entries"). These are distributed on the Eduscol and Educ@def websites, in collaboration with the Direction du Patrimoine, de la Mémoire et des Archives (DPMA), the General Inspectorate of History-Geography, and the Interministerial Delegate for Defence Education.
This document is a working tool intended primarily for secondary school teachers wishing to deepen their work on external operations (OPEX) in class. The resources presented here, both institutional and external to the Ministry of the Armed Forces, are intended to support the "OPEX: combat, support, honour" scheme run by the DPMA for the 2021/2022 school year. Some documents are produced by the CDEC or by the Army, others by joint organizations, and still others are in the public domain and are for the most part freely available online. All these resources have in common that they contribute to the understanding of external operations, and more particularly the role of land forces in them. The reminder of the various points of the history-geography and moral and civic education (EMC) programmes, at the beginning of the document and in each section, will enable teachers to easily identify which resources to mobilise according to the sequence being addressed.
